Matt Grote, based in Hermosa Beach, California, started skateboarding at age 5 and surfing at age 11. When he moved to San Francisco, he met Mark Andreini, who taught him about surfing history, the world of alternative boards, and shaping. His boards, influenced by various surfers from the shortboard revolution era, are a must-see in California today.

Stubby is a template that has a reputation as an edge board, following the original hull flow led by George Greenough. The outline and foil made of continuous curves enhance the purity of the hull board, and the triplane bottom developed by Greenough enables the iconic moves of the hull riders of the past.

There are only very light signs of wear, such as very shallow foot marks. The bottom is clean and can be used as is.
