Matt Grote, who is based in Hermosa Beach, California, started skateboarding at the age of 5 and surfing at the age of 11. After moving to San Francisco, he met Mark Andreini and learned about the history of surfing, the world of alternative boards, and shaping. His boards, influenced by various surfers from the shortboard revolution era, are a must-see in California today.
The AU1 is a model inspired by Michael Peterson and is designed to be used with power blades and narrow flex fins. It excels in sharp turns, ripping, tube conditions and powerful breaks, but by changing the type of flex fins you attach, you can handle a variety of conditions with just one board.
There is some sun damage to the deck surface, some light foot marks, a few dents on the bottom, and dents and small scratches on the rails, but it is usable as is.
